Trading Notes:
Last day of the trading month. Markets started to bounce around at 8:30am following the Q4 2008 GDP data which was down 3.8%. This made for some very quick in->out trades and looking back on it, half of them were under 2-min's which is pretty much the best I can hope for following a news release. Other than the GDP moment the markets got back on track and started working in a somewhat orderly fashion and my trades started to fall into place very nicely. The best days I find are often after a rally like the one we just got out of. Closed the day UP $846 or +8.46%.

Today the markets did 1 thing: Re-traced downward--straight downward--on yesterday's gains. Not for the feint of heart. Personally I prefer to stay out of such market moves since they feel like a wild rollercoaster ride in the dark. Absolutely no way in telling where it's headed or when it's going to end. Got in a few trades on the British Pound instead which showed better volatility to Close UP $422.50 or 4.22% on the day.

January 23-26 Miami Beach

Flew out to Miami for the weekend and didn't trade on Friday 1/23 or Monday 1/26. Glad I left my laptop & gadgets behind since soaking up some Florida sun and chugging down some cold ones by the pool was all I'd been dreaming about lately. Though from this photo it isn't too hard to tell that it wasn't the greatest postcard-ish weather: Partly cloudy, High 70's--but Hey, it beats freezing my butt off in Boston so who's complaining. Being that it's the dead-of-winter here in New England I was glad to trade my usual 4 layers of clothing that insulate me 24/7 for a flowered t-shirt,shorts & sandles. It is truly a magical thing to be able to hop on a plane and be touchdown into "summer-time" 3 hours later. That never ceases to amaze me. And it never ceases to amaze how I can never get accustomed to the cold here either.
No spring break throngs of rowdy drunk college kids in S.Florida this time of year just a smattering of flower-shirted Moms & Dads out with the kids. It's definitely off-season down here: Beaches were only peppered with sunbathers and even the bars weren't full at night. I'll bet the Florida tourism industry can't wait for the spring break crowds to start rolling in. It's like the calm before the storm down there right now.
A balmy temperature of 19°F greeted me when I landed back in Boston on Monday. The forecast calls for 6-8" of snow by tomorrow. Which means only 1 thing: Back to the staying inside and staying-warm-by-any-means-possible regime. Good weather for trading though. Wouldn't be able to concentrate as much as being in the party-zone, that's for damn sure.

This had to be the smoothest trading day I've seen in a while. No spikes, just a perfect even-flow in the markets. Traded the British Pound and nailed every single trade I wanted to make before the market closed @1pm. Short trading day but a great trading day nonetheless. Could have traded another 8 hours of this stress-free market easily. But that's the "holiday market" for you--never the same as "normal trading days"--it's whatever it decides to be. The beauty of today's market was having very defined entry points that closed in short periods in a timely manner. Allowed for more trades with more profit potential. Closed the day UP $1,051 or +10.51% in just 4 hours trading.

Finally got to see the sun for most of the 8 hours of this below-freezing New England "day". Nice to see that it still exists. I didn't expect any warm rays though--wind burn, maybe. [-1°F as I write this]. South Florida is sounding very good about now.
Speaking of South: The markets headed south again on their daily migration to God-knows-where and that was my hint to switch gears and get the heck outta Dodge and head for greener pastures: Enter The Yen. The Yen wasn't having any of this uni-directional movement like every other market seems to be doing this week. Big volatility and predictability were the norm. A breath of fresh air and sunshine on my shoulder. Hands down best trading day, no--the only good trading day in more than a week. After doubling my daily goal made a wiser choice still and ended the day early. Closed the day UP $2,048 or +20.48%.

The December Non-Farm Payrolls came out @8:30am--Highest unemployment rate since 1993 at 7.2%--and the markets went nuts, accordingly. By the time the market settled down 30mins later I was UP +18% by capturing some very crazy hi's & low's. Great Stuff. The rest of the day was a dominantly downward trend day which kept on going until the markets closing. Closed the day UP $2,344.00 or +23.44% to cap off a very nice trading week.

Fought hard all day just to keep my profit gains intact and the extreme volatility wasn't helping much. Overall not an easy day for trading[but got through it bloodied but unbowed]. Trading Notes:
This afternoon seemed to present to me endless perfect trading conditions which were just beautiful. The beauty of it included 3 factors:
1. Clear entry points with no foreseeable drawdowns
2. Steady volume
3. No huge Spikes to throw off the flow.

This allowed me to grab some profitable clearly-positioned trades non-stop for a good solid hour. For certain, this was partly due to the fact that I waited out the morning trading cycle and only started trading seriously after 12:30pm. By 1:45p I was UP +$849 with 12 consecutive winning trades on the DOW. That stretch turned out to be my meat & potatoes for the day and it ended as soon as it began. Made a few more trades after 2pm but the momentum had clearly died down. It was like a mini-perfect storm where all the elements of the universe came together. Weird. And unfortunately that's not how it usually works. It's just never that easy.
Ended the day UP +16.37% or +$1,637 total profit.

Waiting to see some normal market volume on Monday. Closed the day UP +3.50%.
